Not only are her creations beautiful, if you can bear to cut into them, they taste even better than they look. I should know, she created the cake for my wedding.

What is the best part about your job?
Seeing the look on people’s faces when they see their cake.

How did you get into the wedding business?
I have been in the cake business for about 12 years.  I actually got into the business by chance. I was good at doing cakes and people would ask me to do theirs, then friends of theirs would ask, and then it just snowballed.  I have done hundreds of cakes. I specialize in wedding cakes and very unique specialty cakes. I can do pretty much do anything you want, within reason.

Do you typically require a deposit?
Yes, I require half down.

Angela’s advice for engaged couples:

How far in advance should couples book your services?Angela's Cakes and goodies hornell wedding cake219
At least 6 months, if not sooner. I tend to book up pretty quickly.

Walk us through the process that goes into making sure you make the perfect cake for your couple:
After meeting with the couple, it usually entails quite a few messages back and forth to finalize all the details. Once I get details, I search online and order anything special I need for the wedding cake.

Usually 2 days before, I go buy all my ingredients and then the day before I bake the cakes. Either the night before or the morning of I make all the decorations and decorate the cake as much as I can before transporting.  Typically this takes anywhere from 4-10 hours depending on the details of the cake.

I transport the cake in tiers and put them together there to ensure them getting there intact. After stacking them, I finish all the detail work.

What are some questions brides and grooms should ask a vendor in your line of work before hiring them?
Obviously availability, and have them show pictures of their work to ensure quality of work. A flavor list with quite a few options is always a plus and you can request cake tastings to make sure you’re getting a great tasting cake.
